  • Made in: Guadalajara, Jalisco
  • Material: Bovine leather
  • Dimensions: 12" in. x 6" in. x 13" in.
  • Proper care for your handbag: This Carlota handbag is made with high-quality materials, and therefore should be treated with care, protecting it against the elements. Due to the delicate nature of the materials, daily use can cause scratches and scuff marks on the surface, so we recommend you treat it gently. The leather in our handbags is submitted to an important natural dye process, and the suede lining is pigmented with natural anilines, so we recommend that you be careful with any light-color items that might come into contact with it. On textile surfaces, carefully clean the soiled areas using water and soft detergents. To keep your leather products in optimum shape, clean with a soft dry cloth, or, if necessary, have them professionally cleaned.

In ancient times, a humble yet noble hare lived on Earth. One night, the hare encountered a weary traveler who had journeyed far and was in desperate need of nourishment. Unbeknownst to the hare, this traveler was no ordinary being but a god disguised as a mortal.

Moved by compassion, the hare selflessly offered his own life as food to sustain the traveler, showing unparalleled courage and generosity. Deeply touched by the hare’s sacrifice, the god revealed his true identity and, in gratitude for the hare’s noble act, lifted him to the heavens. To honor his bravery, the god placed the hare on the moon, where he remains to this day—a shining symbol of kindness, selflessness, and eternal sacrifice, forever etched against the night sky.

The legend of the hare on the moon is a well-known tale that originates from ancient Mesoamerican cultures, including the Mexica and Maya civilizations. This story reflects the themes of sacrifice, humility, and divine recognition, deeply rooted in these cultures' beliefs and worldviews.

The legend explains why, when looking at the moon, one can see the faint shape of a rabbit etched on its surface. This enduring image symbolizes the value of selflessness and is celebrated in various legends and myths across not only Mesoamerican cultures but also in folklore from other parts of the world, such as Asia, where similar stories exist. The tale serves as a reminder of the power of kindness and the idea that even the smallest acts of sacrifice can reach celestial heights.

CARLOTA was founded by brother and sister, Gerardo and Daniela. Their story begins with their grandmother, Carlota Camacho Hall—a recognized painter in the 1800s whose artistic spirit now lives on in the heart of their brand. Carlota's passion for art and her deep connection to the vibrant culture of Mexico became the guiding light for CARLOTA. As descendants, Daniela and Gerardo carry forward her legacy not only in name but in the craftsmanship that defines each of their leather bags.

CARLOTA weaves the threads of family heritage, artistic inspiration, and Mexican tradition into every stitch of their finely crafted leather bags. Their designs are a canvas with the colors and patterns of Mexico's rich tapestry. The landscapes, traditions, and folklore inspire every detail of their leather bags.

As you explore their collection, you're not just purchasing a bag; you're becoming a part of the Carlota journey. Every piece is not just an accessory but a work of art. Join us in celebrating family, art, and the cultural richness of Mexico with each carefully crafted leather creation.
