Popol Vuh: The Sacred Book of the Mayans
It is without a doubt one of the most important Mayan books is the Popol Vuh; considered “the bible of the Mayans”. In it can be found different themes: religion, gastronomy, stories, legends, customs, and myths.
One of the most important things is that it narrates the story of the creation and origin of man on earth: most importantly, the birth of man by corn.
Corn, as we well know is one of the most important and well known foods in Mexico.
In their first attempt they created creatures with four legs and birds, but these creatures had the disadvantage of not being able to speak. They used different components; one of them was mud.
Nevertheless, these creatures were faulty as they would dissolve whenever they got wet. Which is why they would try making them again but this time with wood.
But they were stubborn creatures, incapable of worshipping the mayans. For this reason, they were punished with a hurricane. This is where monkeys descended from.
Finally, they created a creature that did know how to accomplish their obligations and would fill them with happiness. The material used to create the creature was corn.
There are still things left to learn about our culture that our ancestors left behind. It is the reason we proudly show off our cultura, and another way to get closer to the people who came before us.
The newest clothing collection is inspired just by that, the origin and history of the universe through the Popol Vuh, a sacred Mayan book.
