Amate Dress

Regular price $300.00 USD

Based in: México

This capsule collection, first introduced in 2019, returns with a limited selection available for order through our collaboration with Nayibi. Inspired by amate, derived from the Nahuatl word ámatl, meaning "paper," this collection honors an ancient art form deeply rooted in Mesoamerican culture. Known as amate bark painting, this tradition involves creating and painting on bark paper, typically crafted from fig and mulberry trees. Indigenous communities used amate to record history, convey spiritual beliefs, and depict scenes of everyday life. This medium served as a canvas for symbols, deities, and narratives, weaving a rich tapestry of cultural identity and preserving stories across generations.

Through this collection, Nayibi captures the essence of amate—its role as a storytelling medium, its deep connection to the earth, and its testament to cultural resilience. Each piece is a contemporary homage, blending tradition with modernity to celebrate Mexico’s artistic heritage in a wearable form.

Sublimation

In the creation of the dress, Nayibi employed the innovative textile sublimation technique, a process that infuses vibrant colors and intricate designs onto fabric with remarkable precision and durability. The sublimation process begins with the printing of the desired image onto special absorbent paper using a precision plotter. This step is crucial in capturing the intricate details and vivid colors of our designs with utmost accuracy.

Once the image is transferred onto the paper, it is meticulously ironed onto the garment using heat and pressure. This heat activates the sublimation ink, causing it to transform from a solid into a gas without passing through the liquid state. As a result, the ink particles permeate the polyester fibers, becoming an integral part of the fabric itself.

The benefits of sublimation printing are manifold, making it a preferred choice for creating high-quality garments:

  • Breathability: Sublimation printing allows for excellent breathability in garments, ensuring comfort for the wearer even in warm conditions.
  • Long-lasting Print: Unlike traditional printing methods where the ink sits on the surface of the fabric, sublimation ink becomes permanently embedded within the polyester fibers. This ensures that the print remains vivid and intact even after repeated washes and prolonged wear.
  • Durability: Sublimation printing is renowned for its exceptional durability, outlasting other printing techniques by a significant margin. The colors retain their vibrancy and sharpness over time, maintaining the garment's visual appeal for years to come.
  • Lifespan: The lifespan of a sublimated textile, without any noticeable fading or color loss, is estimated to be an impressive 10 to 15 years, making it a long-term investment in quality and style.

With the sublimation technique, beautiful designs are not only achieved but also garments that stand the test of time, embodying the perfect fusion of artistry and durability.
